New Mexico bill would mandate anti-racism school training âNew Mexico lawmakers are considering a bill that would mandate anti-racism training in public schools and the development of instructional materials about Black culture.
The Black Education Act pending Thursday before the House Appropriations and Finance Committee would allocate $200,000 to fund an educational liaison position within the Public Education Department. It also would create an advisory council about Black education.â
A viral video forced a wealthy Texas suburb to confront racism. A 'silent majority' fought back. The school tried to implement a curriculum and policies to address racism but, âWithin days, outraged parents â most of them white â formed a political action committee and began packing school board meetings to voice their strong opposition. Some denounced the diversity plan as âMarxistâ and âleftist indoctrinationâ designed to âfix a problem that doesnât exist.â The opponents said they, too, wanted all students to feel safe at Carroll, but they argued that the district's plan would instead create âdiversity policeâ and amounted to âreverse racismâ against white children.
The dispute grew so heated that parents on both sides pulled children out of the school system, while others made plans to move out of town. One mother sued the district, successfully putting the diversity plan on hold.â
