Question: Can Whites Develop Antibodies to Trump?
Clearly, coronavirus won’t get him or stop them
Recently, a friend asked me two questions:
“Will the coronavirus stop Trump?”
“Is there an antiracist case to want four more years of Trump?”
One thing is for sure, the whites will reelect Trump. It could be the whites who made the electoral college, it could be the whites in Russia, but the whites—somewhere and somehow, dead or alive—will reelect Trump.
Coronavirus won’t stop them or him. And it makes sense to wonder if antiracism, like antibodies against the latest coronavirus, could build up in the country from Trump.
Could there be light at the end of the Trump tunnel?
In 2018, Chris Rock joked that Bush made it hard for white guys to run for president, which is why America elected Obama, and Trump could bring another Obama.
Studies and pundits agree:
As MSNBC pointed out in 2018, the New York Times published a report in 2009 that listed “public disenchantment with the Bush era” as a factor in Obama’s election.
On April 3, 2020, Rachel Maddow said on her show that America elected Obama in 2008, in part, because of the terrible response to Hurricane Katrina by the Bush administration.
So, what good can come from the worst president ever?
Some studies suggest that Trump makes whites more liberal and progressive on race and racism. After a second term, whites could politically distance themselves from Trumpism. The Tump train is a strain of whiteness, and whites could develop antibodies to the Trump strain.
If whites stick with stupid, will it stop the stupor?
Not for long. As long as whiteness is in effect, this won’t end. New strains of whiteness will begin.
Whiteness is pervasive and persistent. It can come in waves; it has strains, and it mutates.
Treating the effects of whiteness—without ending by force the practices that make whiteness—amount to antibodies, therapeutics, and vaccinations against the latest pandemic.
This comparison is relevant.
Whiteness comes from inhumane practices, and many epidemics and pandemics start and continue, including the ones that decimated indigenous people, because of humanity’s inhumane practices against sentient beings.
That’s the moral of this story: People have to stop the inhumane practices that mess with and screw —people, places, and things. And that includes animals.
A resistance to Trump won’t matter in the long run. Inhumane practices are why these viruses remain. And for whiteness, it’s the same.
